Using the excellent Tradition whisky with its high malt content as its base, the Hombo Family, owners of this independent alpine distillery, finish this batch in ex-red wine casks from their own estate for just over a year. The wine clearly makes its presence felt with juicy notes of wild summer berries, dark honey, and poached stone fruits. The core of the whisky is still malty and rich with shades of vanilla, pepper and nutmeg. A very satisfying, crowd-pleasing whisky.

Limited Spring release of blended Japanese whisky from Mars Shinshu in Nagano. Iwai Tradition finished for 5 months in Sakura casks (Japanese cherry blossom). The Sakura casks are sourced from Ariake Sangyo Co., Japan’s only independent cooperage; the casks are rectangular due to the wood not being able to hold well in a traditional cask shape. Mash bill of 70% corn and 30% malted barley aged between 2–5 years in ex-bourbon, sherry, and American oak casks before finishing.

This is malt driven spirit is truly a reflection of contemporary Japanese whisky. Incredibly balanced, soft and layered. A blending of sherry, bourbon and wine casks with hints delicate hints of peat make for a harmonious whisky that would make Iwai-san proud. TASTING NOTES Ripe Cherry, honey toffee with a beautiful ginger spice.

Shinshu Mars Iwai Tradition Whisky - 750 ml bottle

Limited release blended Japanese whisky from Mars Shinshu in Nagano, finished for 9 months in Cabernet Sauvignon casks sourced from a Napa Valley winery. With a mash bill of 70% malted barley and 30% corn, it is aged between 25 years in ex-bourbon, sherry, and American oak casks before finishing. It has aromas of dried cherry and flavors of lightly toasted black pepper and vanilla bean. The Napa Cabernet casks leave a nice jammy red fruit on the finish.
