A fragrant stopover in Rio de Janeiro, Sebastian remembers a swirl of cobalt-blue butterflies, the sweet smell of tuberose wafting in through the open windows.
A fragrant stopover in Rio de Janeiro.
In 1978 Sebastián sailed from Buenos Aires aboard a gracious 1940’s Italian steamer with his mother, his siblings and the family whippet, plus a number of turn-of-the-century travel trunks filled with books. Destination was Spain, but the three-week cruise of the Atlantic included many a port of call, first of which was balmy Rio de Janeiro, where Sebastián took a trip up the Corcovado mountain, in the heart of the Tijuca forest.
The ascent was via a narrow road upon which the old car gently progressed in a swirl of cobalt-blue butterflies, the sweet smell of tuberose wafting in through the open windows.
