The harder material quickly realigns blades and even works well for harder Japanese made Western style knives. The Mac Black Ceramic Honing Rod also features two grooved sides for more aggressive honing, and two smooth #2000 grit sides to polish blades. The tip of the rod has a rubber end cap to stabilize it on surfaces.
